the games people play

This weekend roomie and I were driving home from church, and as most of our conversations seem to go, we started talking about dating. Somehow an analogy to The Hunger Games came up and she said in a British tone, "May the odds be ever in your favor!" Roomie is a petite, reserved, Latina lady. It was pretty funny.

oh dear.

I have really been neglecting the blogo with all sorts of media in my life to consume every waking minute. I think I need to go on an Instagram/Iphone/Facebook detox pronto.

I am at my mom's house in California. I love being home, especially with the nieces. I can't decide if my maturity level and sense of humor is that of a two year-old, or if I just like being around them and my memories of growing-up because it makes me feel like a kid again. Sometimes I can't believe how much love I feel for those two. I really cannot comprehend parenthood if this is how auntiehood feels.

There are all sorts of treasures and souvenirs of my life's past seasons hidden away in boxes and closets here. Maybe I'll share some soon. For now, here is the song that kept the backseat of the car happy (along with Nonnie's promises of cake from The Madonna Inn) from San Luis Obispo to Orcutt on our way home from an adventure to Morro Bay today.

be mine

Today I enjoyed a salted caramel cupcake dipped in chocolate ganache and sprinkled with fleur de sel. I didn't feel even a little guilty about it either. Once upon a time, Valentine's Day was my least favorite holiday but I have now decided to fully embrace it! Not only are the sweets delicious, but I think February needs a little love. After the holidays there is a strange lull. It's like, "now what?" It's still Winter but it feels like it shouldn't be, but it's not yet Spring. What a perfect excuse for a celebration! I love pink and red together (go here!). I like the cheesy corniness of it all. The valentine's and crafts are oh so fun. We're going to have some fun shenanigans at work including a Smilebooth which are always a good time. I dare say, I love Valentine's Day!

whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa

I'm moving!
I'm speaking in church in two hours!
I haven't even showered yet!

Brother went to a ska show in Portland last night and told me I needed to be there because it was "so my scene." I miss him. I miss those days. This is in my head:
